Buying a jacket online makes people nervous, and fair enough. Leather softens and moulds to you over time, but it does not stretch the way cotton does. If the shoulders are wrong on day one, they will still be wrong a year later. Four measurements will sort this out.
What to measure
- Chest: around the widest part of your chest, tape level, arms relaxed at your sides.
- Shoulders: across your back, from the bone at the end of one shoulder to the other.
- Sleeve: from that shoulder bone, down a slightly bent arm, to your wrist.
- Length: from the base of your neck to wherever you want the jacket to finish.
Get someone at home to help with the shoulder measurement. It is the hardest one to do alone and the most important one to get right.
How it should feel
The shoulder seam should sit on your shoulder bone, not hang past it. Zip it up over a t-shirt and you should still be able to slide a flat hand inside. Sleeves end at the wrist bone. The hem sits at your belt or just below.
Think about winter
Most people here wear a jacket over a hoodie or a thick shirt from December onwards. If that is you, take one size up. Our Heavyweight Oversized Hoodie is cut roomy already, so plan the jacket around it.
Men's and women's cuts
Our men's pieces are cut straighter through the waist with a wider shoulder. Women's pieces like the Structured Trench Coat are shaped at the waist with a narrower shoulder and a shorter sleeve. If your measurements fall between the two, pick by shoulder first. Everything else has some room in it.
